I am a nonrepresentational painter and screen-printer. I create works, that at times reference a physical labor and my role  as a female artist: the larger the material, the harder the labor.

I work on found or purchased (used) domestic materials such as drapes, table cloths, and mended linen of any kind. My thought process with the heart of the materials are “raw material consumption”, or materials used for producing of goods, at the same time, thinking of the labor that went into the original material, the mending of the material, and then the recreation of the linen to contribute to language in a fine arts realm.

I like to consider the work as experimental: I prefer it not be treated as a precious object, it can be walked on, touched, or used in a non-traditional way. I am attempting to thwart a sense of continued harmony with a sense of chaos, allowing the painted space to reflect a sense of upheaval and instability.

Im also interested in awkward inanimate objects I see and use daily. The paintings themselves, become object-like – organic, grungy, and solid yet they often have a droopy appearance. I often am interested in off-kilter geometric shapes to fill in, making the abstract ‘figure’ appear superimposed over a chaotic and unrelated environment, The flatness of painted shapes purposely creates conflict within the space of the painting, as if objects were floating through unrelated environments like unmoored satellites. This kind of formal discord resonates for me on a psychological level. I am interested in dissonance - the collision of disharmonious areas: the tensions between color, line, hard edge, and intersection of sharp corners. Revealing glimpses of earlier moments in the painting process, I allow the work to retain a record of the physicality of paint building up over time. The resulting paintings are more object-like than image; a crunchy, layered surface emerges. The overlaid lines act to restrict what is underneath much like prison bars. When the painting becomes unbalanced, unhinged, or confusing, it reaches its purpose for me.
